Frontline Skills Accelerator - Room 2E

13:00-16:00 - Frontline Skills Accelerator Relay

The Frontline Skills Accelerator is a high-energy procedural skills experience focused on deliberate practice in emergency medicine with expert facilitators, top-of-the-line equipment, and high-fidelity mannequins at each station.

Stations include:

  1. Difficult Airway, Intubation & Cricothyrotomy
    Practice essential emergency airway techniques including building and optimizing bag-valve-mask ventilation, direct and video laryngoscopy with standard and hyperangulated blades, supraglottic airways, and surgical cricothyrotomy using realistic trainers and airway equipment.

     

  2. Bronchoscopy
    Gain hands-on exposure to single use bronchoscopy while exploring the expanding role of bronchoscopy in emergency airway management and respiratory medicine.

     

  3. Chest Tubes & Thoracic Trauma
    Develop procedural confidence in chest trauma management with hands-on chest tube insertion using thoracic trauma trainers and procedural kits.

     

  4. Intensive care central access
    Practice ultrasound-guided vascular access techniques including central venous catheterization, femoral lines, and difficult peripheral IV insertion in critically ill patient scenarios.

     

  5. Musculoskeletal Joint Aspiration & Injection
    Learn ultrasound-guided joint aspiration and injection techniques using procedural trainers focused on common musculoskeletal and sports medicine presentations involving the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, and knee.

     

  6. Cardiac Arrest & Resuscitation
    Participate in high-acuity cardiac arrest and resuscitation scenarios using defibrillators, rhythm generators, mechanical CPR devices, and point-of-care ultrasound to simulate real-world emergency responses.

15:00-16:00 - Crash course to success in Emergency Medicine

Want to excel on shift? Senior residents share their perspectives on what makes an outstanding learner, how to nail your case presentations, tighten your communication during consults and handover, and manage your time re-assessing and picking up new patients.

An informal networking event designed to connect medical students and residents with a common passion for emergency medicine in a relaxed setting. This social aims to foster mentorship, strengthen national connections, and build community within Canadian Emergency Medicine.
